Abstract

Leadership is indispensable in thriving organizations. Organizations rise or fall, succeed or fail in keeping with the nature of their leadership. This applies to Christ’s followers and their missionary task of taking the gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth. The fulfillment of this task requires the mobilization of the entire Christian workforce. Strong leadership is vital to impel, effect, and sustain this mobilization. However, since leaders do not emerge from the vacuum, this article posits that the contextual relevance of a Christian community as well as its dynamic and sustainable involvement in the execution of missions is contingent upon its intentional, strategic, and continuous recruitment and development of missional leaders. The article investigates the concept of leadership development and highlights its significance in the execution of missions today.
